Malawi Congress Party (MCP) President John Tembo who is also Leader of the Opposition in Parliament stunned many yesterday as he showered praises to president of the opposition’s United Democratic Front (UDF), Atupele Muluzi, when he was responding to President Joyce Banda’s State of the Nation Address which she made at the opening of the 44th session of Parliament on 8th February last Friday.
Speaking as if he was not prepared, Tembo was inconsistent in his speech. In his response, he welcomed UDF decision of going back to opposition side. He however almost four times mentioned Atupele Muluzi saying that he is well matured to be a leader despite the fact that many people regard him as being too young to be a leader.
The MCP leader diverted from his 16-paged prepared speech which touched on the current economic challenges Malawians are facing, but rather turned the house into political rally. He also concentrated on how he became a politician; pointing fingers at the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP), saying Malawi is in economic hardships because of the then governing party.
